In the heart of Paris, amidst the sunny and bustling Tuileries Garden, Jonathan Anderson's Dior Fall/Winter 2026 runway show was a spectacle. VIPs, sweating under a plexiglass roof, were cooled by ushers in standing collar jackets, offering cold Evian bottles on silver trays. Pharrell, sitting next to Anna Wintour, fanned himself with his invitation, while Paul Anthony Kelly grooved to the beats, surrounded by models showcasing jeans adorned with sparkling bunting, glittering skirts, and lilypad heels that mirrored the waterlilies in the fountain.
Makeup artist Peter Philips, the creative and image director of Christian Dior makeup, shared his vision. "Les Tuileries has always been a place to parade, to be seen and to see." He explained how the park, built in 1564, has been a hub for casual meetings, or "la rencontre," where people gather for various reasons, be it romantic, business, or even illegal, adding a dangerous twist to the story.
During discussions with Anderson, a twist on "la rencontre" inspired the beauty look. Anderson envisioned a fresh, Parisian girl aesthetic, with a hint of messiness, like leftover kohl or mascara on the eyes. Charlotte Gainsbourg, the French-British actor and singer, was a muse for this concept, and hair artist Guido Palau added a London girl twist, inspired by Kate Moss. Philips described it as "la rencontre" - a fusion of Parisian and London girl beauty.
Today, Philips prepped models for this unique look, steeped in Dior's beauty codes, capturing youth and playfulness. Dior Les Patchs Yeux were applied under the models' eyes, followed by low ponytails with side bangs, creating a messy, yet stylish, hairstyle. "Jonathan wanted ease with style," explained Palau. His low ponies were a trend spotted in Vogue's Milan Trend Report, and he predicts more to come, as ponytails can be versatile and glamorous.
Nail artist Ama Quashie recreated her clean manicure, inspired by Anderson's request for a buffed look. Philips kept the face simple, with no blush or contour, applying his new skincare-infused Dior Forever Skin Glow Foundation, creating a different kind of glow. The eye look was slept-in, with a subtle application of Diorshow On Stage Crayon, a trick to transfer color effortlessly. Bare lashes were curled, and natural arches were shaped with Dior brow products.
As a final touch, Philips used the Lip Maximizer in Pink to hydrate and create a plumping sensation. He explained, "JW doesn't like a shiny lip," so he removed any glossy texture. Philips worked right up until the models stepped onto the runway, ensuring the shine was gone.
